Default Problems Already?!

So far all I have done to my car is the TB Bypass and I pulled the screen from the MAF. Were either one of those a mistake? Seems that the car smells of gas really bad sometimes. But I cant find any leaks anywhere. Sometimes it only smells after I shut it off, other times it smells while I sit in a drive-thr etc. I didnt disconnect the battery or anything. Do I need to do that so it "re-learns"? Runs fine though. It was pretty hot today but not as hot as its gonna get. Coulda swore I heard a "soft" backfire a couple times too. Help...

hmm.........put your maf back in. If that doesn't change then it's probably your TB bypass. maybe did something wrong

What could I do wrong though? Just took the two hoses off the TB and put them together leaving the holes in the TB open. And the MAF , well, either the screen is in, or its not. I was lead to believe that the LT1s tend to run rich and that de-screening can lean them out and make more power. However, I just read an article on a Maf A Matic tuner that lets you enrichen the car, and they made power. Maybe my car was already lean enough? And now its too lean? Whatta ya think?

not sure on the MAF but on the TB Bypass because its a later model LT1 it has to be done differnet then early ones such as mine, with the later ones, 95+ you have to do something with the steam pipe that connects to the TB im not for sure on all the info but i do know that it has to be done different then early LT1's.

I have done both of them, and I smell gas some times, and it backfired once. I don't baby it, so I figured it was the gas swishing around in the tank and venting. I smell it as soon as I get out, and then it goes away.

Yea I dont smell gas if say, I go out to it a half hour later. So it must be something "residual" just from driving hard etc. My car is a 94 and it has the earlier TB as far as I can tell. Just a hose to each side that I put together. And for those who might care. I put the screen back in the MAF (After noticing that the SLP one comes with one and says not to remove if its a street car) I have to say its alot smoother, and way better responce. I didnt notice losing it until I put it back in. Makes it hard to believe that aftermarket ones are worth it. Anyone have Dyno proven gains from aftermarket MAF's. Since every car is different, I would say everyone could try it, and if you dont like it, pop it back in. Its really simple, just a snap ring around the inside of the MAF. Just a big FYI
