Default Hypertech Programmer?

Should I buy a Hypertech Programmer? It's suppossed to add more ponies, and I'm getting a 160 T-stat, and I need to change my odometer. Is it worth 400 bucks?

Mailorder, or Dyno tune. The Dyno will cost more but most places will only charge~50 for a retune for future Mods.

You can get a dynotune some places for around $400. It won't be too much more anywhere.

And please do not get the hypertech. You will gain much more with a dyno tune.

Stil no comparison. The hypertech only makes a few minor one size fits changes. A dyno tune will help you get the max power out of your specific car.

400 = little if any gain
500 = real tune, much better running car, much better gain

I dont know what your time frame is but within the next 2 weeks ill be able to sell my hypertech programer. Let it go for 150 shipped. It works for 94/95 LT1s. I have to put the stock tune back on before i can sell it, and right now the car is kind of torn apart. Let me know.

Ive never had a dyno tune. Do they have the equipment to correct his speedometer and adjust for a 160 stat like he needs? Just wondering.

Well if they can "tune" the car like you do on a dyno (make changes to the A/F, timing, etc.) then they would need to have some kind of software that can do that (most likely lt1edit or tunercats) so yes they could do whatever else is needed as well, unless they are completely incompetent (making those changes is way easier than adjusting typical dyno tuning parameters).

yes the hypertech will adjust your odometer and accomedate a low temp stat but when I bought my car i wasted my money on a hypertech cuz i was dumb and unwise at the time and didn't see much of any kind of gain and wish now i had just saved my money and went with some kind of tune like madz28 or pcm4less or some kind of dyno tuning instead of on the hypertech theres my .02

man, i dunno about those Hypertechs...maybe it depends on which one you need, but i've got a '97 i'm having problems with & honestly, i bought the thing b/c my hubby's (for his '99 S10) reads trouble codes...that's what i needed, but the one for my year/model doesn't read trouble codes, firstly...secondly, after we ran a couple of VERY minor programs off the hypertech (like fan temp), my car wouldn't even freakin' start...i have no idea what that means, but i'll tell ya this, after we took it back to stock, it started right up!

now, mind you, this is in the midst of a lot of repairs we're doin' right now (car was a little neglected before i got a hold of it)...stuff ranging from opticrap to ignition sys to, now, tranny rebuild...but using that hypertech's the only thing that's made it flat out not turn over...

you be the judge! me? i'm gonna agree w/the guys hollerin' REAL tune...somebody put it to me like this...dyno tune makes hypertech look like a speak n' say (you know who you are!)...& i believe it!

I had a tune done with LT1 Edit for my Hotcam. There is all kinds of adjustments that can be done... it can even flash the Computer to do Auto or Manual setup. I am thinking about buying it so I can tune my own car. That way I can always play with it, and do my friends cars.

The Hypertech is no good. Don't do the generic out-of-the-box tuning. Get a custom tune or go to someone who can tune to the mods on "your" car.

you can't do your friends cars with lt1 edit, vin locked (unless you get the $$$ shop version).

You can get tunercat for OBD1 that is not vin locked, their OBD2 is now locked also though.
