Default Swapping headers: increase or decrease in fuel economy?

My brother is thinking of getting headers but heard they lower mpg a lot even with a tune.

I was wondering whether that is specific to long tubes or all headers? or emissions/no emissions.

Opinions please. Let me know if you had an increase/decrease in mpg after install and what kind of headers.

think of it like this: long tubes will give you power upper end, shorties are great for low end power (most of the rpm range you will cruise)

I thought long tubes gave more power in the low end and short tubes give more in the med/high end?

Ive always been told that LTs increase gas mileage because the exhaust will be Pulled from the combustion chamber due to the design of the headers therefore increasing mileage.

It's less restriction, allowing your engine to do it's job easier. So you will have better fuel economy, problem is, staying off the fast pedal and enjoying that extra power.

wannaz28, are you retarted, long tubes give you the power down low. dont post unless you know what you are talking about. Think of it like this, when you let the car breath you get better mileage, (clean or high flow filter and better exhaust) so yes headers will increase MPG, i have personal experience with this
