Default 94 LT1 Engine Bay cleaning...

I really like to try and keep my car as clean as possible, and this engine bay thing is getting at me bad. Is there anyway I can detail it, and make it all nice and shiney without having to worry about killing my Opti? How wet can I get it.. meaning is drips from a really wet rag going to get to it, or are we talking about soaking/spraying that kills it?

Some people will tell you to get some wd40 and elbo grease. Some will tell you it's ok to spray it with low pressure as long as you stay away from the opti and other electricals. I have a Dynaspark opti. I plan to sray my down soon.

a drips not going to kill it.

not like all the electronics are exsposed on the opti.

and really, the only hole on a opti is on the bottom... unless gravity changes it really shouldnt get anything in it.

i've hosed mine engine many times, hell even used a pressure washer.

notice in his sig it says misses after 5800...(opti) lol...idk his car but it might be...i would heat up the motor...take off the rubber elbow...put rag on top of opti...spray degreser/zep cleaner/ w/e your cleaning with get some sort brush and brush away use more soapy **** to keep it from drying back up then finally power wash the side fender wells use runnin water(no pressure) on anything else...also dont forget to remove the heat shielding under the hood and clean under it(dont put it back on) take before and after so we can compare

Heating up the motor before washing it wouldn't be a bad idea? Couldn't I just hmm, cover that hole(I don't know **** about this Opti to be honest, other than it sucks, and that I can't afford for it to die right now haha).

I will take pics before I clean it though.

This is the trick bro, Spray every thing in the engine bay with Simple Green. Let sit for about 5 min. Lightly rinse everythink with low pressure water. Them go over the whole thing with some shop air. and lastly spray everything with armor all... A lot. It will be all covered with armor all and it might seem like overkill. But close the hood and open it up the next day and You will be Amazed. Trust me. then wipe away any excess. Heres mine 2 weeks after I did it. I learned this from a guy who used to own his own detailing company.

ditto, and put a plastic bag over the opti, and the PCM just for safety sakes.

I've been hammering mine with a degreaser and a pressure washer since I got it and have had no problems.

However I don't reccomend it.
