your check engine light will not be on for a/c code but it will stop your a/c from working if there's a code for a/c. also check to make sure your pressure switch is good and the harness going into the compressor is good.

new thermostat. just to be safe, coolant flush. bleed the hell out of it. and youll be ok. now for the a/c just check your fuses to be sure the a/c clutch fuse isnt blown

You need to jump the low pressure switch to make it take freon if it's too low. Just unhook the connector and jump between the 2 terminals on the connector.

The switch has three terminals not two.

Don't these cars only have the high pressure switch, 3 prong up on the small diameter line beneath the low side filling port? Is there another switch?

The light you describe sounds like the low-coolant light, which is prone to false readings. If you look on shoebox's sight (http://shbox.com/1/low_coolant2.jpg) he has info on it's location and removal, if that is indeed the culprit and the coolant is not low you can try removing and cleaning it, replacing it, or merely unplugging it to get rid of the light.
