Default Backfiring

Ok my friend made me take em to mcdonalds tonight after a movie and while I was waiting my temp gauge went up to 210. While the gauge was climbing my idle got worse. Then when it hit or just got over 210 my car started to back fire. Anyone know what could cause this? I know it's unburnt fuel but waht should I check? I have replaced all the plugs within the last year, some not even that long ago. Wires are also only about a year old. If I rev my engine up to about 1k it's a little rough but doesn't back fire. It seems to do it everytime it gets up to that temp.

Ok I hooked up datamaster to my car but it never had a big back fire just some small ones. I had to let it idle for a while but it finally started. It was like a 10 min recording. One of my friends said he could tell I was running rich just from the exhaust fumes.

Well I'm just thinking it isn't the opti because I do not have a problem when I rev the car. My spark seems fine when I am WOT. I also do not want to replace the opti .

running rich is better than running lean. So that isnt your problem. Id say opti as well.

if it's the opti, wouldn't it just die, rather than just act up? other bad optis usually just fail altogether, right?
