And painting and clearing is cake compared to making the surface perfect. Sanding is where it's at.
Making sure every square inch is perfectly smooth. ANY imperfection you can see before paint... will be there after paint. 
And if you want to maintain a flat look, you can add flattening agent to clear.

Thats the color and the one that looks good, it doesnt look like crap
Its matt black with very little gloss, its a real paint not bs ricer primer
Hot Rods were wearing black primer long before the term "Ricer" was even invented. I know the Real Muscle Cars as you call them, that are seen around shows and cruises are painted, or at the very least they used epoxy primer, as well they should.
Make no mistake, those guys are only copying a look that was started years ago, using plain old primer.
