Tranny mounts possibly bad... how to check?
I think that I am having tranny mount issues. Car shakes real bad in 1st and reverse. No matter how delicately I baby her, she still shakes real bad in the shifter. Its a manual. I thought maybe clutch... 28K on the stocker. No major mods, just small bolt on stuff. Somebody said that to check clutch is to go to 6th and gun it. I did, and it held just fine, rpm and speed increases at the same pace. No slipping. Anyway, how do I see if its my tranny mounts? And if its them...how do I fix? THanks,

Replacement is easy; grab a floor jack, a couple jack stands and a socket wrench (17 and 19mm I believe)
support trans
4 bolts to remove crossmember, 1 to disconnect it from the mount (if it's even in one peice)
Remove mount from tranny (2 bolts)
Install is inverse of removal.
Should take 15 min tops.
Stock replacements run like $10, polyurathane run $20 or so.
Polyurathanes do tend to transfer more vibration to the chassis.

Would that happen in all the gears? Right now the problem exists in 1st and Rev. only. 2nd-6th seem to be fine. If not the trans mount, what could cause the shift level "shaking" real bad in 1st and R? Thanks man,

the crap out of me. The mount was broken in two.
You'd feel it when the drivetrain engages (1st and Rev)

not only what everyone else said but you'll feel the shifter **** actually lift up a little say like in 1st or 2nd gear or high load revving from the torque. Super easy to change though and I'd recommend going with a better the oem rubber mount

i would go poly while i was under there, stock rubber mounts can actually let the shifter move under load, poly mounts are stronger, i would just do that if i were to replace it

Trust me, you'd remember the sound and feeling of your transmission slapping your floorpan... I know I did. Tranny mount was easy as hell to change, luckily no damage was done. I'm not sure how long it had been broken, because I bought it wrecked, and the girl before me didn't know anything about cars... she probably thought it was normal or something. My guess is that it's not just your transmission mount (though it my need replacing anyway) --- it's a very distinguishable feeling when your mount is busted.
