Default Car Died - Recommendations Please

The Z lost power this morning after exiting the freeway, it steadily lost power and after 1/2 mile of sputtering along it collapsed (cue visual from 'Platoon', looking up to the sky, arms up). Anyway, from everything I've read here it surely seems to be the opti; it had been running a bit rough for a while now, it would hesitate for a mile a so upon start-up before it smoothed out. So, which brand should I use (and definitely not use) for a replacement opti? Should the waterpump be done at the same time? Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

That sucs bro, seems to me that if the opti was to blame... shouldn't it have just died. not slowly faded away? I am new to the game, however, it is my understanding that most things electrical in nature, just die. Sorry this wasn't more help/is completely wrong. LOL, Good luck!

I've seen this problem on my buddy's LT1 he had, and it was a clogged cat. It slowly lost power over about a week or two, and then just wouldn't start, and it was plugged tight.
