Oil Filter Problem....help needed.

As simple as it is, for some reason I cant get my oil filter off to save my life. I havent ran my car in months due to a blown head gasket and, now that I've got everything put back together, the only thing stoping me from starting my car its the stuck oil filter. I have long tubes and dont have much rrom for the tool, so all it is doing is denting the filter. Anyone know any other ways to get it off?

When I first bought my car I had to poke a screwdriver through it (low n the side). I then used it as a handle to rotate the filter off.

They make these wonderfull things called "strap" wrenchs. These are bands with a handle that grip with pressure. Go to advance buy one come home and remove filter.

i bought a socket type wrench its like a huge socket that fits over the end and you can connect a wratchet and extensions and what not and its a breeze...

Used the screw driver....worked like a charm.

For years the ol' screwdriver method worked fine but ↑ works much better if you are going to do your own oil changes in the future. The straps can slip too easily.

Yep. One smear of oil and it just slips around. Screwdrivers are good for one time rusted on can't get it off any other way but thats about it. The sockets were 'new' (I'm OLD) of which all my screwdrivers are happy not getting punched into oil filters. The strap has been sitting so lonely in the tool box...I think. Haven't even looked for it in about 9(10?11?) years

Yeah, I am the only one who changes my oil in any of my cars. I have like 2 straps, that are just sittin in the bottom of the tool box. Adn yeah the screwdriver is good for the rusted on ones that you just can't get off any other way.
