I like the Valvoline Max Life for higher mileage stuff. I had an 89 Regal 2.8 and a 95 Cherokee 4.0,both over 200k, both which I beat the crap out of constantly and the Max Life kept them going. I trust any Valvoline oil product. For synthetic, I run Amsoil. Just my 2 cents.

Why dont You want to use synthetic? I switched to Synthetic at 75,000 miles with no issues at all the previous owner used conventional. I could tell the difference when I changed. Its kind of an old timer hot rodder myth that synthetic is no good. Technology is where its at.

Because its thinner and leaks more than conventional. I just want to know a good non synthetic oil to put in my LT1.

God damnit one more of these and Im makin a sticky!!

Normal 10W30 and Synthetic 10w30 must pass all the same tests and standards.
One is not thinner or thicker then the other.
That is a myth.

Synthetic oil has chemical properties in it and hs less friction then normal motor oil.
If youre motor is burning oil, I wouldnt recommend synthetic because it will find the problem for you.

But if your motor is just leaking it, fix the leak, and try something like Mobil 1.

Sheeeit.

Pennzoil 5-30! Can't go wrong. LT1 are a simple chevy 350 with with reverse flow cooling and a opti. The LS1 is newer and was engineered to run on synthetic.

Also not true.
In short, synthetic oil is better for performance.
Its promotes more engine life, and less engine wear.
(unless your motor has a wound, then it will exploit it)

Its better for any motor, especially cars that like RPMS.

Early LS1's came with Normal oil, but MANY new cars are being pushed on the synthetic bandwagon, because newer engines last longer and synthetic oil is nothing more then an advancement in technology.
If they would have had synthetic in the mid 90's, you can bet your life GM would have used it on alot of their vehicles, espeically the LT1, where the 350 SB running 6000 RPMS was unheard of until the LT series.

personally i wouldn't run pennzoil i've heard a lot of bad things from people and have seen pictures of a torn down motor that ran pennzoil all its life with regular oil changes it was horrifying how much oil sludge there was in the motor i wouldn't run it but thats just me i guess

i should take a picture of my head from running synthetic all its life perfectly clean looks like its never seen a drop of motor oil not bad for a motor with 82,000 miles

I'd rather just change the oil and sell it than fix the leak.

mobil 1 syn 10 30. i also use the mobil 1 302 oil filter that is for the small block s-10s, its a lot longer then the stock filter, and holds almost a quart itself. i so have that nasty intake leak in the back, and also a leak somewhere up front ... i only lose maybe 1.5 quarts over 3,000 miles using syn.
