Default hickups?

Ive been driving my car for about 5,000 miles now. The engine has slowly developed a hickup syndrom. Whenever i apply a little more than average throttle, or hold the throttle steady for about 1,500 RPMs' the hickups start in. A mechanic told me it was the optispark, so i put in a new optispark, distibutor cap, and rotor. This did not fix my problem. New airfilter, no help. I have done all servicing accept for the spark plugs. I pulled a few out and they looked fine so i put them back in. Can anyone help me?

THANK YOU,
Cory

By the way the car is a 1994 formula m6 if you didnt grasp my name.

Try plugs/wires...Especialy if you have alot of miles on the car. Also try cheeper things like a new fuel filter and maybe a new coil? I think the MSD coils are like $30....

The SES light comes on and off and on and off....so i stopped by o'reilys today because they have a rental code reader. And it just so happend that the 10 minutes i was there it was not throwing a code, so none could be read. about 10 minutes down the road it kicked on again but o'reilys was already closed.

From some other posts i read im begining to think it might be a bad o2 sensor.

even if the light wasn't on it still should have been able to read the stored code, you should go somewhere else and have the codes checked find a checker, advance auto parts, pep boys, or whatever you have around they usually check the codes for free.

If its anything like mine its the egr it might be stuck open or closed or whatever i guess they were problematic on the 94's but you should also do plugs and wires for sure it could be that very easily

by chance what plugs are you running? i used to have champions in mine but it started missing on me and i saw they were arcing inside the plug boots (MSD superconductor with 10,000 miles) i ended up putting NGK TR55's in there and took care of the problem surprisingly

I think the plug wires are actually what it came with out of the factory. My plugs are bosch platnuim 4 and they look pretty new.

Where would i find the egr valve at i know its emissions but thats all i know. Is there anyway i could fix the egr valve myself or should i take it to a mechanic.

your running bosch platinum 4's?? do yourself a huge favor and get rid of those pieces of crap! they are complete junk they might be alright in some coil on plug motors which have a lot more volts going to each plug but when you've got one coil firing eight plugs the dwell time is much less and you get less volts going to each plug the stock coil is probably around 35,000 volts most motors with a coil for each plug pump in about 60,000-80,000 volts to each plug

in short: what you want is one very concentrated spark the need for 4 different paths for the spark to travel leads to two crappy weak sparks or one path for the spark to travel anyway

they are crap get rid of them, most of the people on this board will tell you bosch plugs are junk anyway

the EGR is located behind the intake manifold on the drivers side

Just to be clear, you did replace the opti with new components right? Your syptoms describe opti to a T.

A lot of people on this board run NGK TR55's if they are still N/A and not spraying and those are what i am running for plugs as well and i am happy with them as for plug wires i have the MSD superconductors and they seem to be working pretty well for me but routing them through the stock locations is a bitch and a half because they are 8.5mm wires vs. the factory 7mm but it can be done doing doing wires on mine was more time consuming than changing all 8 plugs and the opti on my car

Ok i'll get on those i run ngk in my quad and they work well so i have always liked them, and i will try the superconductors.

Do any of the symptoms sound like an o2 sensor?

What does the egr valve look like because i have no clue what i am looking for.

well first of all you gotta get it scanned and figure out what code it stored and then go from there chances are they are related instead of throwing parts at it and wasting your time fix what you know is broken

GET IT SCANNED!

Cleaning the EGR won't fix it if there is a mechanical problem with it, there is also a vacuum control valve that controls the EGR opening that could be faulty. I would try replacing the plug wires, they can cause symtoms like you describe.

ok, so you got the codes read. it deals w/ the egr and oil temp sensor. just bite the bullet and replace both of them before you go do plug wires or anything else. (the computer rarely lies) even though you cleaned the egr, it doesnt mean that the diaphram inside isnt shot along with anything else that is a moving part in the valve. my car would do the same exact thing, except i didnt put a new egr valve on, i just made a block off plate, and had it tuned out and on the bright side to that, if you get it tuned out, you will gain more hp when you get the car tuned pcmforless.com does a great job w/ tuning cars.
