Crank sensor problem

Crank sensor problem I have a 1996 LT1 and I am running into a problem with the crank sensor. The piece that goes on the crankshaft wont go flush to the timing gear Like I need some sort of spacer. I am using the cloyes double roller timing chain and gears. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How does the motor run without the crank sensor?? and what does the crank sensor do?? I am confused. I dont see how the motor could run without the crank sensor.
