Having problems starting new motor.

Having problems starting new motor. I think that the problems have to do with a bad starter. The starter is about a year and a half old, and was a brand new AC Delco starter installed by the dealer. When we went to start the new motor tonight, it sounded like the nose was spinning but wouldn't connect to the flywheel to turn the engine over. We can't seem to figure out what is wrong with it. As of right now, tommorow morning I plan on purchasing a new starter assuming the one I'm using now is bad. Before I go and do this, does anyone have an idea what my problem might be?
are you running the same flywheel when you took it apart? if everything is the same as when you took it apart it sounds like the starter is just not extending out. you could unbolt and try starting to see if its coming out and turning.
sounds kinda stupid but check to make sure the bolts are tight. i was coming home from a long road trip, georgia to texas and back again, and driving over the shitty roads in mississippi caused the bolts to back out and the starter gear would not make contact with the flywheel. after sitting in the alabama welcome center for a hour at 3am i got on the ground and the starter was about to fall off. if the bolts are tight sounds like the starter needs to be replaced or excessive resistance causing the gear to not extend far enough.

Went to the local dealer today, talked to the service manager about it. Pretty much the starter is broken. So after that I marched straight into the parts department and ordered up an AC Delco reman. Same warranty as a GM one just an AC Delco. Dunno sounds confusing to me, but they take care of me there so I shouldnt have warranty issues. Now I can't start it untill Thursday cause of work but whatever.
