Was thinking about doing 4l80e if I can get my d/s to work. I read a lot of stuff but some say shorten the shaft, others say the stocker will work with yoke swap. Well with my 700r4, the shaft just barely fits in there. With the 80, I am sure the case/tailshaft is longer than the 60. Can anyone verify for sure?

OK, might have my answer for this one.

Go down to the section that says "Attention C4 owners." They claim they will have a kit that will "make the 4l80e the same length as the 4l60(e) with 27 spline d/s." I presume the Vette had the same length tailshaft as the F body. Correct?

Wouldnt go by that. I think the Vette driveshaft is shorter. I know for sure manual vettes have shorter shafts.

Right, I know the shaft is probably shorter but is the trans case the same length? I wanna make sure I can use my custom d/s. I can only do so if the case length will be the same.

A handful of guys on the b-body board tried that vendor for 4L60E builds and to say the results were HORRIBLE would be giving them more credit than they deserve.

Hmm. So they build a crappy trans. Reckon they could do ok with a tailshaft housing and an output shaft?

Took me two months to get servos from them. I dont want to get deep into but it was crazy. I cant see how they could screw up a tailshaft housing and an output shaft. Have you done searches in the auto section to see what theyre using etc?

Yeah I've done a bunch of searching but a lot of the time, the search was down. I had run into no one that was using a modified tail with a 27 spline shaft on the 80. Most seem to be running a custom shaft or one guy said he used an 80 slip yoke on his shaft, but I don't know what shaft he was running. Actually, seems that I really haven't found but a handful that are running the 80. Most are just lookers. I thought this kit was interesting. If I could get it, I am fairly certain it would work. I don't see how they could screw up either item. One is a housing, not much effort there, no moving parts. And the output shaft is just that, a shaft. It just has to be true with good splines. Don't see why it wouldn't work. I'm not in any hurry as long as the kit is quality. I finally found something that said a C4 tranny is almost 1" shorter in the tail. This would be perfect for me. My custom d/s is a precise fit currently and I have an 1" to work with (have to tap it with a rubber mallet and turn the yoke at the same time to get a fit). I just didn't wanna have to order another one after throwing down almost $400 for it some months ago.

OK, guy is still looking for the 80 but I was just thinking I might convert my setup to lockup for budget reasons right now. Besides converter with lockup clutch and aftermarket lockup control, what else do I need? Anything the trans needs internally or just those two things?

ALL 700r4s were lockup from the factory so you will need to undo anything that was done to make it non-lockup if anything other than the converter was changed.

Oh suck, I bet if I called on that SOB I would get the "I have no idea response." Does it get a wiring harness or something? Solenoid? Valve? Switch? I'd bet it would be kinda hard to convert one back over if all that stuff has been removed. I sent out an e-mail but I might have to call tomorrow to find out for sure.

That is jus going too handle the lockup electronics but I do not know if any hydraulic circuit changes would have been made for the non-lockup setup.
