Default Long tubes, ORY, and Borla, help!

I would like to say in advance that i have tryed searching this site for the past 3 days and for some reason the searh will not work for me, nothing will come up, nothing happens. So sorry for the repeated post if this is one... I'm in a hurry to attain new knowledge and parts before first snowfall.

Please also forgive my ignorant questions. I am only 17 and am still gaining experience as an F-body enthusiast.

I'm looking at headers for my 96' A4 Z28 and I have a few questions.

I've come to the conclusion that long tubes are the best way to go but most headers dont have a place for the EGR valve. What do you guys do about this? Do you get rid of the EGR completly? Whatever is done, how do you keep the check engine light from coming on? Computer reprograming?

Also, the y-pipe. I have noticed the vast majority of the F-body owners on this site upgrade to an ORY. What is this peice all about? (for lack of a better word). What is meant by Off road? and what is done with the cats and O2 sensors? Whatever it is that is done, does the computer need to be reprogramed so the check engine light doesnt come on?

I have a borla cat-back kit on my car and I was wondering if this would fit and line up with an ORY. If not what needs to be done to make it work?

And last, will any of this hinder the dependability of my car? Does all of this screwing around with the cats and EGR stuff have any negative effect on life of the engine? Anything special i need to know for a project of this magnitude and expense?

Thankyou very much in advance.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Ben

Long tubes ARE the best way to go.

Your EGR can be tossed, you will still pass emissions, usually....

As for the computer, some cars wont throw a code when EGR and AIR is removed, my car didnt and yours might not.

The ORY is a good choice too, it is a catless Ypipe. Your o2s will be on the header collectors.

1) LT's for our cars do come in two versions, w/ emmissions and w/ out. So deleting you egr shouldn't be a factor unless you want to get rid of it.
2)If you want to have cats on an ORY(off road Y pipe) then you'll need to get some and put them on yourself. High flow mini cats seem to work good(pypes). Regaurdless you'll need to get some O2 sims or reprogram the pcm to avoid an SES code, You'll also need some O2 extentions.
3) Yes, it should connect to your catback just fine.
4) To answer your last question no it won't hurt your car in any way. Plan on spending a weekend for the install at least. How much it will cost is up to you and how much you want to spend.

Thanks Tony, and 97Formy. Where can I get some good O2 extensions and O2 simulators? I would only need 2 sims, correct? seeing as how the other 2 are on the header collectors...

Also, where would you recomend getting these headers and y-pipe from? I'm leaning towards hooker. Summit is where i found these after doing alittle research on hooker's website. What do you guys think? Are these a good way to go?

Yes, you will only need two sims. I got my sims and extentions from Thunder racing. Money was an issue for me so I went with Pacsetters coated LT's and ORY for $500 from Byunspeed.com.

On my 96 I went with pacesetter LT's, Pacesetter ORY, and magnaflow the rest of the way. The set up sounds really good no popping or anything like that, sounds like a tuned race car.

And you will probebly need new O2. My old ones did not want to get off so if was allot easier just to get new ones for 50 bucks.
