when to make the switch?

I'd run it from day one. But I'd change the oil pretty regularly until 5,000 miles. New rings shred off a lot of metal in the first few thousand miles.
My friend got a new 2007 car and we just changed his oil at 500 miles. Thats probably overkill but I'm **** and better safe than sorry

I thought it was a a few thousand with conventional (do a change or maybe two) and then run a Synthetic Blend for a few thousand and then Synthetic, but Ive mostly heard everyone skip the blend...
most of the sagas with the synthetic oil stuff was started with the old codgers just like everything else.it is perfectly safe to run synthetic oil from the very beginning,if it wasnt GM would not have allowed it to be used in Brand new vehicles such as the zr1,syclone,typhoon etc.the camaros/birds such as the Lt4 came with synthetic oil.
synthetic oil is the only way to go,if bearings and rings could speak they would tell you...go for it you have nothing to lose!
