So i got this noise coming from under my car. thought it was a heat shield rattling on the exhaust because its only when i stop and the car idles or just as i let the clutch out. could this be the clutch maybe or anything else. the clutch is old but its still got some life on it. any ideas / thoughts

mine did the same thing, the problem was my cat, start there.

I would check all exhaust parts first. If it keeps it up only when you let the clutch out or idle. Is that idle with or without the clutch pressed.(b/c it might the throw out bearing in clutch assembly)

check the exhaust hangers too, one may be loose.

Sounds like the Exhaust. Doubt it's Clutch chatter, unless something's about to break inside it.
