Well, I think the key here is the adjustable pushrod length checker tool. I marked the top of the valvestem tip with a sharpie marker, set lash, then rotated the engine (two rotations of the crank = one rotation of the camshaft). I just kept shortening the adjustable pushrod length checker tool in increments of .050" until the wear pattern on the valvestem tip was centered & as narrow as possible.

Once you find a good length, measure it with some calipers, and order a set of pushrods.
(Keep in mind that you might need to do this procedure for both the intake and exhaust valve -- they might each require a different length depending on your exact setup.)
