About 12-15 hp, and 18-22 Tq.
On an LT1, the stock exhaust manifold (headers) are very restrictive.
Anything is a great improvement... Mids will wake your car up alot. Id say about .2-.3 tenths, if you have a nice exhaust to complement them.
I recommend the Pacesetter Mid's w/ Armor Coat, but there's other good choices too.
LT's can give more torque and hp then mids, but sometimes not by as much as you would think.
( This is what ive gathered from many poeple and are mainly averages, all RWHP )

The legality issue is a technicality. there are definitely shops out there that will pass a car with longtubes. You will never get a ticket or anything like that for having LTs. Also i would estimate no more than 1 hour extra on my install time for going with LTs. I had to unmount the passenger side of the engine. that involved removing one bolt and jacking the motor up, and replacing. 80% of the work is getting the factory stuff out.

long tubes are legal and you can keep your emissions hookups. so the legality is not an issue with them at all as long as you maintain your emissions hookups and keep your cats on the car. im not sure what the law is in mass but here if you have a 95 or lower(obd1) you dont have to have any emissions restrictions (ie. no cats, no egr, no air, etc). but i have mids and dont really like them that much i wish i would have gone with long tubes but hind sight is always 20/20

Theres been some good threads comparing mid's to longs, to stepped. I couldnt imagine trying to mod a car and worry about staying legal etc.

Mids can make some good power. The MAC mids I have claim 28.4 RWHP on their site. So I figure 20 real RWHP is very common.
It should sound better.
