Default Decent first day out, 10.81@124 NA

a few guys have asked how the car is doing so i figured i would post

Went to US41 Sunday to see where i am at. Due to the weather (+1600' DA early and it got worse from there, and there was a head wind) most guys said they were 2-3 tenths off thier usual times, so if thats the case i am in pretty good shape. its a pretty mild 396 combo. factory LT4 head castings and stock PCM so i am limited to 70-7200rpm

best pass:
10.81@124 with a 1.46

i was pretty happy with the runs. the car still needs some MAJOR tuning, and the converter is pretty tight for the motor since it was intended for a 200hp shot. not sure if ill change the converter for some 1.3s NA or just put the bottle on it soon. with a dyno tune, a little better weather and a few other small changes i think a high 10.3 on motor is possible. then a gear change and some bottle <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

anybody else get thier cars to the track this week?

10.69@126.6 with a 1.48 yesterday with no changes but a little better weather. track wasnt hooking as well as last week.

i like the TA. i have the front in the middle hole and the rear in the upper holes. i havent played with moving it around any, seems to do what i want where it is. i think getting my rear Hals rebuilt and put back on the car and a new set of slicks will fix the little traction problem im having at times.

the intake that i wish i had time to get on:

Which intake manifold is that pictured? Are you using a distributor or the stock opti?

Nice times Darren!! Keep pushing it. I am in the process of picking up a set of 215RR's.

As far as tuning goes....are you still on the program that I gave you (base)?

the manifold in the picture is an Accel EFI intake and 1200cfm throttle body. the intake is very similar to a Victor Jr. i had it machined to work on LTx heads. Joe Overton sells them if you are interested. its also the same intake he runs on his 9 sec NA monster. ill definitly get it on the car next winter if i dont build a new engine

i am using an opti, and will keep using the opti if i put that intake on

Jason, yeah i am still using that program you gave me with a few changes. changed the injector size, gears, etc and have played with the timing a little. to start i put it at 36 across the board at WOT. before the laptop died i tried 34 and picked up 1 mph. O2s are around 1100. hopefully ill get it dyno tuned sometime soon.

Would you mind me asking what that intake setup cost?

I have been looking into someting like that only with DFI and using a crank trigger/distributor setup. Are you expecting any significant gains switching to that manifold?

you can use that setup with the stock computer, thats what i was going to do for this year. just have to change the connectors on the IAC and TPS. if you wanted to use a carb hat and run some tubing you could still run MAF, but i was just going to go speed density and run the TB open.

you can click on Joe Overton's profile in his post on this thread and he can let you know what it would cost to get you an intake setup. i am also probably going to be looking to sell mine sometime soon. i dont think ill get around to putting it on since this combo will hopefully be out of the car by the end of the year, and its time for me to start focusing on the bracket racing season thats about to start up

those runs were on transbrake. this last sunday i ran again and made one pass leaving from idle. still spun a ton since i was the first car down the track for the day. went 10.67@128 with a lame 1.56, riding the 7200 rev limiter the last 1-200 feet. raised the limiter for the next pass, left on the transbrake and the steering rack broke when it came down. at least now i figured out the problem and finally have it fixed though. if i could have kept running i think it had a high 10.3@130 in it still without good tuning but who knows. found out last night the motor is drinking a little coolant on the drivers side so i need to look at that, but ill hopefully be back out this weekend.
