Default installed new opti

i installed a new opti today and it still acts the same. do you think it is the ignition module or do you think it's something else? the plugs and wires are new. replaced 1000 miles before opti failed.

it idles rough. it doesn't really have power to go. rpms has trouble climbing. when it gets to 3500 rpms it sounds like it is bouncing off the rev limiter. i replaced the coil in it today and drove it it worked fine until it started to warm up. it got to normal operating range and started sputtering and not really wanting to take off. then it acted normal.

Have you checked your O2 sensors? O2 sensors will throw a missfire code... sometimes.

From my experience when I replaced my opti and did the coild and wires at the same time. It wasn't the opti that was actually at fault. Instead, one of my brand new wires had dried out and cracked and then was arching off of my header. But it would only arch when the engine was up to running temp. This is because electricity travels better in warmer air, hence the reason my car would only stumble once it was up at running temp. What I would suggest is to wait till night when it is completely dark out, start up the car, let it get up to running temp. dont have any lights on and pop the hood and look in the engine bay for light from an arching wire and if you can't see any from the top, also look from the bottom of the car for the light from an arching wire.

Hope this helps.

I'm still trying to get my MSD Optispark put in cause I'm having familiar problems. My car doesn't do some of the things yours does, but it USED to sputter taking off. Or if it stays in 4th gear and I slow down then try to go up a hill or something, it will sputter. I mean "USED to" because the problems magically went away after I bought the opti! But will happen time to time. Anyways, I'm not even sure the opti will help me. I have a feeling its maybe the fuel pump or something. People have mentioned that to me so that would be my next guess. I'm assuming were sorta having the same problem, so maybe look at the fuel pump?

Your 4th gear problem kinda of sounds like a possible header gasket exhaust leak cause I've stumbled upon this problem too. When my car was at a certain rpm range and in 2nd or 3rd gear and held it in that rpm range it would sputter and stumble upon itself. But the stumbling wasn't like a miss kind of stumbling. I solved this problem with a simple tightening of my header bolts. Which is wayyyyyy cheaper than a fuel pump. I'm not neccessarly saying that it is the header gasket but its something to check before going and dishing out money for a fuel pump.
