Default Anybody know much about this 396 Package?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has used this particular package and whether this number seems about right for an LT1/LT4. It's the Golen 396 Long Block.

Also, I'm curious as if I would need an LT4 intake or a Miniram or something to support 520HP? Or would the LT1 work, even tho the heads are TFS LT4s.

I just picked up a 95 LT1 Vette, and I'm not familiar with what the LT1 manifold can support or whether it can be used with an LT4 head. I know I want to keep the stock EFI for now, and I know LT4 manifolds have been discountinued. So what are my options?

I can find you a quote from a happy Golen SHORTBLOCK customer that will say that motor will only put 370 to the tires. Golen is NOT a head shop they do decent shortblock but the heads are not worthwhile. Golen is honest with that 520hp number the problem lies with the customers most of whom do not understand how that number is achieved and the HUGE impact insallation in a car will have on it. That number is on an engine only dyno with no intake or exhaust restrictions and no accessories, combine the intake and exhaust restrictions of a car along with the drivetrain losses and that number comes WAY WAY down.

Neither the LT4 intake or the Miniram are upgrades atall either woulf be a waste of money.

I suggest you do a lot more research before buying anything.

What about Advanced Inductions' 200cc Competition LT1 heads or their TFS 210cc heads? What would either be capable of matched to their race ported LT1 intake?

Ai's website claims an M6 can achieve 475rwhp with a ported intake and other valvetrain parts (upgraded rockers, lifters, and pushrods). I'd be matching it with a Comp Cams XFI LT1 Camshaft 242/248 .584"/.579" 113 LSA.

I know the A4 robs quite a bit, but if this setup can do 475+rwhp in an M6, it'll make 560+ at the engine, and probably still make 420rwhp in the A4 unlocked, 450rwhp locked. I plan to stick with the stock 3.06 gears and run a Yank SS3200.

Advertised flow numbers:
TFS 210 Ai 200
.100" 75 72
.200" 152 148
.300" 211 205
.400" 256 248
.500" 285 275
.550" 294 281
.600" 296 283

I like what I see from Golen with their shortblocks, so I'll probably do the 396 through them. What do you guys think?

I think the Golen shortblock with an AI topend would be a good way to go. A little birdy told me there is some news on the 200cc heads, some very good news.
