Default Wrapping Headers

Just curious, what are your guys opinions on wrapping uncoated headers? Pros?
Cons? Before you ask.... Why would you want to do that?, I just want opinions.

Thanks
Bryan

I have never wrapped any myself, but I have heard from several people that the headers will rust away very quickly.

IMO that would be old school. If you get coated headers the coatings themselves provided the insulation to keep the under the hood temperatures down and keep the heat in the exhaust while also providing rust protection and prolonging your investment. Coated headers also improve the under hood apperance. I am running Pacesetters and after a complete summer they still look awsome and have yet to have a leak. FYI dont use the header gaskets that come with them they are not the best.

dont wrap them. wrap = bad if something needs to be protected from the header tht's close to it, wrap that instead with some heat tape

I had mine wrapped when the engine was out the car. My edelbrocks were coated but we wrapped them to keep the spark plugs from getting burnt and keep the temperature under the hood down further. I got the wrap that you fold over the pipe and then clamp down not the type you actually wrap around like a bandage. I think the bandage type would definitely have worked better, oh well. The under hood temp is still pretty much the same maybe just a tad better.

When i get the new AS&M mids i will NOT wrap them. Plus when you wrap headers you void the warranty most of the time. However, I will get some protective sleeves for my spark plug wires

this is why you dont use header wrap. These werent even on the car for a year as DAN @ CIA stated. They're a set of headers for a 3.8L v6 F-body. They were originally coated, then the customer decided to wrap them.

I wrapped a set of pipes 1/2 way. Ran car up tp temp and there was at most a 10-15 degree difference. Not worth the hassle unless you are on the edge with a parts temp.
