Do I have to use the stock distributer?
Im swapping an LT1 into a customers 78 trans am. Is there any way i can tap a whole inback of the intake so i can use a HEI version or is there a LT1 aftermarket coil kit? Thanks

I've seen somebody selling an LT4 intake manifold with a hole drilled in the back like your saying for a distributor. I know this is probably no help other than just letting you know somebody has obvoiusly done it.
Also, there are alternatives like LTCC and delteq units. I have the delteq in mine... you'll still need the opti for its optical sensor. here's links:

GM makes a LT1 conversion to carb manifold part no.24502592 list price 324.94. There is also a front timing cover plug to do away with the opti spark part number 12367600 list price 63.13, then you can use a standard dist.
