As far as connecting rods... There are arguments as to why either is better than the other... I'd talk with Harold about that topic, as he pointed me to std 5.7 rods in my 383.
For the main caps, itd be easier/possibly cheaper for you to have him machine your block and add 4 bolt main caps. Rather than try to find a 4bolt corvette block.
As for whether you need them or not depends on your intended usage for the motor.
What kind of rpm range are you looking for?
Any power adders? If so what and how much?
What kind of total power are you looking for?
Generally the 2 bolts will be fine to 6500rpm and a max of 500-550hp (flywheel). Some have gone higher with them, but any more and your asking the caps to walk and cause bearing issues.
As far as sending it to him, dont worry about it. He can build one of his cores, send it to you built, and you send back your core. Or, like he did for me, just sell you the cores outright at a very good price.
Give Harold a call, explain your goals and budget, he will set you up with a package deal. Just be prepared to spend 1/2-1hour on the phone with him.
