Default Would you buy this LT1?

hey everyone, im new here... i have a question.. im going to look at this camaro tomorrow (click ) i was curious for any input on the car.... the cars got some mods done to it, the owner says the car has rebuilt motor and rear, and that the car runs great.

im not a fan of the wing, but i can swap that for a z28 spoiler

any tips on what to look for on the test drive? any thing that could be a giveaway to problems or anything like that?

thanks alot

look for any kind of noises(howling, whistling, or squeaks) make sure theres oil in the engine, and trans. ask for maintenence records. it has the same mileage as mine so youre ok there. with the borla/no cat/CAI(ram air?) other mods youre close to 310RWHP.

i kinda like that spoiler. its the wings west wing. i wanted to get one for my car so i can actually clean underneath it.

I'm not big on the spoiler either but, thats minor cosmetic.

Not sure how much the guy will let you get on it but, if you get the chance, give it a decent pull up to 5500 and see if it bogs at all in the higher RPM.

Ask about the optispark - has it ever been changed?

And there's the obvious - look for any big leaks oil wise. I've been kind of fortunate with mine that way but, I hear others say that LT1's can have some nasty leaks especially on that rear main seal.

heres a good one to look for too

look for ripples in the rear panels thats signs of hard launches. unless he had SFC's to stop most of it.

From the looks, it might be his drag car so, I'd be cautious.

In a word, NO.

Here's what I would be afraid of: I think the wing is stupid, so I would be afraid that the owner is stupid... and all the things that could go along with that.

That's a harsh, opinionated, and probably stereotypical judgement... but it's my input.

He might be a cool guy, he might have performed good maintenance, he may have installed all the parts correctly. He may just have different taste than me. I'm just telling you my initial gut reaction to a car with a spoiler/other visual mods that I don't like.

Thats a good idea. See how dirty the car is. Sounds stupid but guys who take car of their cars usually have nice cars. If your interested in it more, make sure to take it around for a good spin and make sure that motor feels strong. If I were to buy another high mileage lt1, I would check everything twice. (speaking as if he had made a few errors in the past)

I wouldn't; that thing is horrible looking. Maybe if he'd take $1500.

sounds like a scam, it has probaly been wrecked, notice the front bumper has no bowtie or emblem on the nose, meaning it has been repainted or replaced most likely, along with the hood. other than that it seems like it doesn't have much done to it. he says it has a new rear end.

check to see if it has been wrecked in front. ie radiator support, and check the front tires to see how bad out of align it is(if it was wrecked) And with that high of mileage check the oil see how thick it is and the smell of it. IF its thick and smells really burnt he might be hiding the fact it may have spun a bearing and hes trying to quite that down.

Yea just becase it has a clean title doesn't mean it wasn't wrecked. My friend fixes repairables he gets from the auction, and some of them have clean titles still.

I know how it is to find a car that's awesme, and you heart races to get it, but be carefull. I could've gotten a pretty nice 94 Formula with a M6, but it had a weird front noise/knock and I passed. Even if it had a "rebuilt motor 11,000 miles ago".

TWS brings up a good point though. He could be an "All show, no go" type of person. Ricer at heart, put on all the pretty parts and it's a daily driver made to look like he goes to the track every weekend. Then again, as I said above he very well COULD have gone to the track every weekend heh.

Looks like an all show no go car. If the rear is new chances are he was launching it hard an broke it. Im willing to be he had a bottle on it at one time. How long has he owned the car, and what does he want out of it?

You'd be amazed at some "reputable" mechanics on here spell!
