RPM/Shift Problem
RPM/Shift Problem Hey my name is Rob i am new here and i have a problem with my 1996 Trans am WS6 A4 it only has 62,000km on it and when i go past 4000 RPM it slips out of gear or won't shift i will be driving and it will shift fine threw 2nd 3rd whatever gear its in before 4000 but eather if i punch it or go slower threw the gears, when it hits 4000 it will not shift its almost like it gives up but only at that point never at any other time. I have headers, Cat-back and a few little things not much i thot eather the Computer or Tranny but im not on expert the car is babied always has been i have not gotten it scanned yet i have only had it a month or two before it had to be packed away for the winter i hope you guys can help.

Your over drive band is probably going out. I think its called an over drive band...Id have to look at my transmission rebuild sheet to see..Get it fixed now before its too late.
im not the smartest person when it comes to transmissions, but ive replaced enough of them. i have a 95 t/a w/ an a4 and mine was doing the same exact thing, everytime i would be at WOT, once it got up to a certain rpm it was as if you put it in nuetral, just reved up and slipped. lets just say that now my car is parked, and the only gear i still have is reverse. lol.
