Default Trouble after upgrades

Having some trouble after a few bolt on mods. Changed to a ported intake and 58MM TB. Installed Jet Hot long tubes and a X pipe set up. Also swapped out the Comp Rs for a new stock set of lifters. 1/4 turn adjustment after 0 lash. (comps were to damn noisy) Car ran fine when I first cranked it after the mods. Lots of improvement! After it gets warm and is driven for a while, it starts popping under less than moderate acceleration. When I approach a stop light, I have to do the right foot on the gas and the left foot on the brake kinda thing to keep it running. When its shut off (or dies) and I try to restart it, it kicks back like its waaayyyy to advanced. (broke a starter housing) I disconnected the coil wire to troubleshoot any mechanical or some sort of liquid lock. I cranks over fine, but when I reconnect the coil wire, it kicks back. At the moment, it will not start. Plugs are gapped at .050. The scanner shows no codes. Help!

take a little adjustment out of the rockers, should do the trick. once the new lifters pumped all the way up you became over-adjusted, just loosen them all up 1/2 turn and see what happens.

Wouldnt that leave the adjustment a little loose? Only 1/4 turn now. If I back it off a 1/2 that would the valve train rattling around till the engine warmed up. Kinda thinking that I might have two different problems. I havent checked the TPS voltage after the throttle body change. Also I might have gapped the plugs a little more than the engine likes. Gonna take the plug gap down to .040 and check/adjust the TPS and see if that helps. Keep the suggestions coming!

It wouldn't surprise me to expect to have to adjust the rockers a couple times after installing new lifters. First shot out of the box you're likely to get a false zero, my completely ignorant guess.

OK, not completely ignorant. Happened to me on a hydraulic lifter cam in a 40HP VW engine.

Remember what this advice cost you. ;-)

Cheers -- Gary
