Default Best factory heads to upgrade TO??

I've got the 93 Firebird, and have kinda been reading that some of the newer LT1s had better heads on them. So basically it'd be an upgrade for my car, am I right?

If so, which ones do I need to get, and will it be a direct bolt on, no problems?

Thanks

Well the later ones have less beef them, although when your going to port them look for casting #'s 102107643 or 10128374. These have more beef to port out...these off of a good porter can get 275-290 cfm on them....

from 92-95 i believe the iron headed lt1 heads outflowed the f-body and corvette heads but from 96-97 the aluminum heads caught up to the iron heads in flow numbers and they went with a slightly milder/different cam but the newer aluminum head do indeed outflow the older aluminum heads but not enough that it would be worth the swap you are better off porting the heads you got because like other people have said there is more material to work with in the older heads

Out of the box the 96-97 F-body heads are te better flowing ones, but when you port the heads the earlier style heads have a little more meat which is supposedly better for porting. I'm running 97 heads on my LT1 without a problem and I'm putting down decent numbers.

Yes the 97 LT1 heads flow a tad better, key word here being a tad. This would hardly be called an upgrade especially considering the cost. Just port your current heads.
