That is their CNC head with 70% int, 100%, exh, and 100% combution chamber. The 195 cc runner head's are for the LT-4 with the raised runner. You would need to get either a GM LT-4 or a Edlebrock LT-4 intake for them(I don't know of any other intake manufactor's out there without going to a sheet metal intake). The AFR 180 cc heads are for the LT-1's.

they dont make a lt4 no more and who the hell know's when edelbrock will come out with there... the only set of heads afr makes that will fit the lt1 intake is the 180cc isn't it? so what would be my numbers using those heads?



Ray, so how do you like that cam on the low end? is the throttle response there across the whole rpm range? or do you have to be above a certain rpm?

I am running a full manual 700R4 w/a 3200 stall....for low end response I was cutting 1.59-1.62 60's w/a 222/228 .544/.538 112. Switched to the bigger cam and still cut 1.59-1.62.

I haven't noticed a drop off in low end power..but the new cam pulls hard all the way to 7000.

If you went with a big cam in a 355 you will lose some low end...but the stroker makes up for it

There are 3 GM LT-4 intakes on www.ebaymotors.com right now. I just talked to Edlebrock about their manifold. It will be available in JAN. of 2007. If you want me to I will keep track of the availibility of it and will shoot you a price on it. With the 180 cc heads your TQ will be higher at low rpms and will peak lower rpm on the HP.
The peak HP is at 6500 rpm @ 522 and the TQ is 466 @ 5000. Again this is with the new Eliminator steet head. The older casting heads will give you less HP & TQ compaired to the new ones. The easy way to tell, is whether or not it has the 8 mm valves vs. the 11/32 valve's. The 8mm are smaller in dia and have less restriction in the port than the 11/32 valves.

the lt4 intakes on ebay are way to pricey for what they are, i've been hearing about the edelbrock intake for a while now and i'd probably be willing to be a guinnea pig and try that out.. cuz i doubt it could be worse than the intake we already have...

1) the Edelbrock LT4 has been promised for quite a few dates that are now past. Don't bet on it EVER being available, no matter what they say.

2) You mention autocross... chances are you'll be uncompetitive in ANY class the motor work will put you in, 355 or 383. Modded motor = SERIOUS classes in AutoX.

3) You talk about 'about the same price' - be sure you compare apples to apples. A balanced fully forged 355 with GOOD crank and a balanced fully forged 383 with a GOOD crank DO cost a similar amount... but it's a lot more than a budget forged 355 OR a budget 383. A serious bottom end is gonna cost... and to get numbers in the 460/460 range at the rear wheels is also gonna take big bucks up top, as well as need major fuel system upgrades, NEVER be emissions legal, and get really poor fuel economy.

Bottom line... race only, you can do the power you want, but it'll cost you. If you need to be street legal, LS1 with a 8.5-1 408 and a rear mounted turbo can easily get you well over 500/500 rwhp/rwtq. (1000+ on 15-18 psi...)

BUT IT WON'T HURT ME TO WAIT TILL I ACTUALLY NEED AN INTAKE WHICH WILL PROBABLY BE SOMETIME NEXT SPRING AND SEE IF BY CHANCE THEY DO HAPPEN TO RELEASE IT, IF NOT THEN I WILL STICK WITH A P&P STOCKER.

2. I DON'T PLAN TO BE REALLY COMPETITIVE WITH ANY ONE OTHER THEN MY FRIENDS AND I JUST WANT A GOOD HANDLING CAR WITH A GOOD AMOUNT OF POWER THAT I CAN TAKE TO THE TRACK AND NOT BE LEFT BEHIND IN.

3. YEAH I GUEES $7k-8k IS STILL CONSIDERED A SMALL BUDGET BUT WITH THAT I THINK I CAN BUILD A FULLY FORGED BOTTOM END WITH SPLAYED 4 BOLTS, WHETHER IT BE A 355 OR A 383, THE DIFFERENCE IN PRICE WILL BE THE EXTRA MACHINING THAT I WILL NEED IN ORDER TO PUT IN A BIGGER CRANK IF I DO DECIDE TO GO WITH A 383. mY CAM IS GOING TO BE CUSTOM AND MOST LIKELY MY HEADS ARE GONNA BE AFR'S BECAUSE I'M SKEPTICAL TO ON RUNNING AN 11.1+ CR WITH THE DECK PLATE THICKNESS OF THE STOCKERS. THE UPGRADE TO THE FUEL SYSTEM IS A GIVEN, THERE IS NO WAY ANYONE WOULD BE ABLE TO RUN THAT MUCH POWER ON 24LB INJECTORS AND THE STOCK PUMP. I'LLL PROBABLY BE UPGRADING TO AN AEROMOTIVE 255LPH PUMP AND INJECTORS IN THE 36LB. RANGE OR SO. I'M NOT REALLY WORRIED ABOUT EMISSIONS, I HAVE FRIENDS THAT'LL GET ME BY, AND IN THE CASE I HAPPENED TO GET SENT TO A STATE REFEREE, WELL THEN I'LL DEAL WITH IT THEN. FUEL ECONOMY? I DON'T THINK THAT ANYONE ON HERE THAT'S MODDING THEIR **** REALLY CARES ABOUT THEIR MPG TOO MUCH, AND I WOULD ONLY BE DRIVING IT ON THE STREET 3 DAYS A WEEK, MAX!

I did 480 RWHP and 419 RWTQ with my 355. Stock heads and stock LT-1 intake both ported. So I don't think you need an aftermarket head or intake to make good #'s. I got all my stuff from Advanced Induction. Check it out. You sound exactly like I did when I started my 355 build, I wanted the same things you did and I got more than all of it. I wind my car to 7K and when I replace the stock ECU with F.A.S.T. I will be able to rev to 7600. I still have good torque. My SR cam is not as big as some of the other ones I have seen.
