help! high idle, no shifting

help! high idle, no shifting it's running about 2000-2300rpm at idle now.
left it running for about 15 min and it dropped to 1600.
it wont shift out of first, i have reverse and neutral, and if i really get on it it'll shift into 2nd.
i think i might be stuck in some wierd cold start mode in the computer, but i am not sure, and its really starting to **** me off and worry me at hte same time.
any suggestions?

im not sure but it sounds like it could be a vacum leak of some sort. I know on older cars there is a vacum line that runs from the intake to the transmission for shifting. That might be loose. But like i said thats on older cars. Not to sure about this.

We had the exact same problem a couple of months ago. We looked and looked for any vacuum leaks and it turned out to be the tps throttle position sensor. It is located on the throttle body and takes about 5 minutes to change. Our car didn't through any codes either. Just thought I would give a suggestion. Thanks Cindy
