Don't take it personal, but I and many do believe that synthetic creates problems in high mileage engines. By the way, we are in Texas, its always hot down here, maybe in a colder environment, sythetic would work for us......for now... we'll stick to regular oil at 3,000 mile intervals...
synthetic motor oil causing oil leaks is total bs! the only time a using synthetic oil will cause an oil leak is if the seal or gasket has already been compromised. what happens if you've been using regular oil and the gasket or seal isn't what it used to be what usually happens and they get filled up with sludge which stops the leak and when you use a synthetic oil that has cleaning properties it cleans up that sludge and you will lose oil

^^ Pretty much sums it up right there. Synthetics only make leaks on your car that are there worse or more visible. That alone doesnt mean a synthetic is no no on high mileage motors. Do some used oil anaylsis's. See what kind of wear you get with your choice convential, then try some recommended synthetics. the Days of 3000 Mile oil changes (exemptions, exclusions, etc) are fading. Most oils (even convential) these days can go past 3k OCI. Just because the oil is dirty looking doesnt mean it's time to change it..

What you guys are saying doesn't seem to apply to my experience, but I guess that my LT1 just likes conventional oil...

Sorry that it's taking me so long to reply, I'm on travel right now and won't be back to my home computer for a few more weeks

You can have a .001 or more wear and not spin a bearing however, a 001" increase in clearance can cause large reduction in oil pressure.

I just don't understand how you can state that bearing wear will not drop oil pressure when every manual I've used for engine maintenance/repair always has worn bearings on the trouble shooting list.

I don't want to start a flame war either. If you have any scientific, or expert documentation that states worn bearings will not cause low oil pressure please share it .
