WTF is the PCV valve for?
Positive Crankcase ventilation, and especially with higher compression engines like the LT1, pressure tends to collect in the crankcase and when the pistons come down on their powerstroke it gives resistance to this, which causes lose of power and to more pressure, which as stated above, will cause more oil leaks. but also loss of power, more than you think too

PCV is about more than crankcase pressure, the gasses that collect are full of bad bad things like acids that will very quickly dimish an oils capability to do it's job.

try this, heat some water in a covered tupperware bowl for about 3 minutes. take it out and shake it... now imagine the water as hot oil and the bowl as your crankcase and you get the idea.

My badWell, if you were to utilize a vaccum pump, you'd have to have both these systems sealed, correct? Are there any others?

Ya know, I was kickin around this in my head as well. My PCV was out of the valve cover for a good 3 weeks, and I didn't notice any different performance loss or gain. I'm pretty sure that I forgot to put it back in, not that it blew out of the valve cover. I just find it totally odd that it didn't perform worse, since usually that's the case from a vacuum leak.

It's on the Drivers side of the Intake Manifold, in the center of it.
I think some people confuse the hose coming from the passenger rear valve cover to the TB to be the PCV...I did do the filtered breather mod part BF412 and installed it in the the grommet in place of the plain plastic elbow and re installed the hose to the TB to see if I see any difference. My previous set up had a breather in place of my oil fill cap..Now I've sealed the system back up using that Deutsch-Champ BF412 part...We'll see if it works to help control the little bit of oil that gets into the TB...

Erm well it HAS a PCV valve in the hose that goes into my valve cover 
I worked at a parts store for 3 years, and it's the same PCV valve that was in my 90 Suburban.

When i first got my car, I thought the valve was missing, because it only had the elbow in the valve cover. If it hadn't been for google, I would have stuck one in the there.
