Default Kook's Headers

Well went to install my kook's stepped headers and the right fit with no problems the left one thought acts like it is for a totally different car. I can't even bolt it on because it hits the K-member anyone had this problem before? In order for me to get these to fit I would have to replace my canton oil pan and move the oil filter. I was going to run pacesetter and had them one with no problem now the left kook's is totally screwed.

When I installed my hooker long tubes I had unbolt a motor mount and jack the motor up slightly to get the header in. I was in the instructions that came with them. Did you get any?

tried it and didn't work it hits the oil pan and I would have to go to a dry sump oil system. I had pacesetters on it and had no problems what so ever now these $1100 headers aren't fittin.

In your first post you said it was hitting the k-member. And no I had everything in when I put my headers on. Not sure what you have goin on really, any pics?

It sounds like it might be the wrong header in general. Contact kooks about this. I run a canton 6-quart oil pan and hooker LT's with no problems.

I'm thinking the header is wrong also. The right fit with no problem but the left? I've called and left a message so hopefully I'll get a call from them. It kills me that I'm almost ready to stab it in and this and the ARP balancer crap with they sent me the wrong one. I will never do a lt1 again that's for sure,

When I installed mine, the drivers side went in without a hitch, and the passenger side was a bitch. I needed to unbolt the motor mount and jack up that side of the engine, also pulled some crap off the front of the engine to make life a little easier... but from the start it appeared like it would fit.

Sounds like you were given the wrong header for the passenger side.

I would call them and see what they say.

They are supposed to be great for fitament.
I am curious because I am going to be going with the same exact header soon.

Have the KOOKS & LT1 Canton pan also.

* First off my KOOKS were resting on the hex plug we had to install in place of the Low Oil Level Sensor (will not fit with Canton's pan and KOOKS) and then we still had to shave about 1/2 of the hex head off for absolute clearance.

* I was on travel when GForce installed the KOOKS on the 396, so can't say how they dropped them in. Call GForce (281)993-5451 ask for Jay and if he can give you a quick tip on what he did for install and also ask him for the correct oil filter p/n, standard lt1 filters will no longer fit with the kooks due to where the primaries sit, I believe it's like a Suburban oil filter (97 or so).

* Your KOOKS stepped headers are a better performance header over Pace's especially for strokers, as for fitup, I've always heard they fitup easier than most, but when you start running custom pans as always there are challenges.

If you figure out the resistance you can just jump the contacts where it plugs into the sensor itself and you'll lose the low oil light on your dash. You can relocate it on the pan while the pan is off if you think you need a sensor.

I check mine constantly along with everything else and use redundant gauges, etc.

If you're running the stepped Kooks you need the AC PF454 oil filter...Thats the one I use and it clears everything fine...Now I have a stock oil pan, but the PF454 is small enough to clear the big header tube and makes for easy servicing...

I can get it for you after lunch, I don't think I have any pics that close for the steering knuckle I don't think, but it clears just fine. You did pull the steering knuckle to install it right?
