Default 396 stroker Shortblock

Ok guys, I am getting ready to make a HUGE purchase and need your opinions. I have been reading through the forums and did a search on golen shortblocks and VRE shortblocks. Now there seems to be a favor for VRE and a lot of down talk on golen. Can anyone give me some supporting reasoning?

What I am looking at as of now are these 2 options:
VRE 396ci Racer Series Short Block
http://www.victoryracingengines.com/...TX&BLOCK=SHORT

Chevy 396ci / 520hp LT1 Long Block
http://www.golenengineservice.com/html/lt1_lt4.html

now which one would be your suggestion. I am leaning towards the VRE due to the callies rotating assembly. But i want opinions.

The heads I am going to mate to this is looking towards the AI 200cc package. with a street/strip ported intake manifold.

Any help would be appreciated and if there is a discount of some sort let me know.

Also if you think it would be cheaper to have a local builder do the machinework and all let me know.

Boy this is sure weird.

I thought you were going to have a 550 Wheel Horsepower 355ci? huh...guess not.

As for your thread, there are a LOT of SICK places to build some nasty shortblocks.

Check out Dave DiLuca at Canadian performance (SLED28) www.cdnperf.com . This guy has the 2nd fastest nitrous LT1 in the world. And he can build a mint setup for any of your goals.

Tony.

Got one in the Camaro..
Look around your local junkyards, that's where I got mine when I needed a new Block. I am sure you already have, but you never know what you might find. You might get lucky like I did, and they don't realize what it is. I got the Block, Crank, and a few other useable things for $500.
Where you at?

I know you want a Corvette block but I have an unmolested 2 bolt LT1 block that I want to sell. I have a friend that's laid claim to it but I kinda doubt he'll produce the funds. Might be able to do the splayed 4 bolt mains on it. I've read a few people say the splayed mains are stouter anyway. I personally am running a 2 bolt block myself, adding studs very soon though for a little insurance.

yeah tony I deleted the other threads because of the arguing in most of them. I decided to go 396 because it will be easier to reach my goal and NOONE around here has one.

I took your guys' advice and researched the dyno results from various 355s and compared them with various 396s and decided 396 is what I was looking for. I am still going to leave the formula badged "formula 350" though to throw people off since it IS an LT1 block.

But I will take a look at your suggestion. I can drive to VRE and pick up the shortblock, and over on CZ28.com they have down talked Golens ratings on their motors so I have been leaning towards VRE.
