Its common with the stock knock module that the knock sensor can pick up false knock from roller rockers or even header ping.

Do a search and you'll find more than enough info on it. You can find one for $20 - $30. Why not spend that to not have to deal with the headache of false knock when trying to tune the car?

What's the difference between the knock module and the knock sensor? I know one goes in the PCM and one goes in the block, but which one will avoid timing retard? I've got midlength headers and roller rockers and I'm not sure if it has either one.

Well, the knock sensor is screwed into the block on the passenger side underneath. It simply sends readings to the PCM. The knock module is a removable chip that is placed in/on the PCM and it is what does the retard. the module interprets the readings from the sensor. Getting an LT4 module will lessen your chance of it retarding the timing for knocking that isn't there. The LT4s had the 1.6 rockers, bigger valves, and bigger cam so the LT4 module was designed to be not as "sensitive" so to speak as the LT1 module.

I think the sensor retard the timing. I was told to get them both at the same time
