Default LOW OIL light

Besides low oil, what can cause the low oil light to be on?

When I had the clutch put in Saturday I had the rear main seal replaced, maybe 1/2 a quart of oil was lost. For the first 3 times I drove it the low oil light wasn't even on. Then I turn the car on and the low oil light stayed illuminated. So I check the oil and this is when I find out its down 1/2 a quart. So I go to Pep Boys and pick up two quarts, stick a little more than half a quart in and hey its back up to the top of the xxxxx on the dipstick. Light goes away. Next day turn the car on, light is on again. Oil level hasn't dropped. Pressure is good. Turn car off, then back on, light is off. So all that day light was on every other time you turned the key. I don't even have to fire it up, just letting it finish the light test and turning it off then cranking the car will result in the light being off when the car runs.

So any reason why the low oil light seems to come on everyother time the key is turned???

I had a guy replace my oil pan gasket at the shop i work at and didn't remove the sensor before taking down the oil pan down and caused the sensor to break. causing the light to stay on unless i cycled the ignition switch.

Where is it mounted on the pan? Could it have gotten hit when the transmittion was removed?

If I am not mistaken it is that wire that is covered running next to the oil filter... but not sure. Actually in the picture it is the one below the filter. If that is the case, it is not impossible that something could have happened. A wrench slipped or something...if they are not expensive. I have never replaced one, I would try it and see.

Hope this helps.
