Default Motor from Autozone

do you guys think a motor from autozone is worth the moneyl. it is $1800 with a $600 core charge. it is an LT1. it has 3 year 100,000 mile warranty. do you guys think this is worth the money? or should i stay away from this. it is a long block complete with heads and everything. the only thing i would need to reuse is the intake and all the other stuff.

I dont think they rebuild it themselves. I believe another company does it and they market it as their own. Do a little research and check up on what that warranty covers (can u cam it?).

I'd shy away from that. Find a good engine builder and have them do it. The price should be close and the quality better.

Agreed, spend the $$ on a higher quality engine! And from my experience, they will VOID your warranty as soon as they find out you cammed it. Your salesman will tell you whatever to get your money, and then they'll deny a claim when they find out its been opened up.

They will VOID the warrenty if you install a different cam into the motor. There are only a few high volume engine remanufactures that will install a HP cam into a engine. The key to this is that they have to install the cam before it leaves the plant and you are limited to what cam they will install. I know Recon and Global engines will perform this service for way to much $ for what it is worth. I worked for a major auto parts chain for almost 11 years before I quit and opened my own shop. As a store mgr I delt with these types of situation's for years (I got to the point that I hated selling engines to people). If you buy the Autozone special you can probably expect about 3 months before bringing it back for a warrenty (I know who their supplier is, DON'T DO IT). If you do go to buy one call the manufacturer direct and check with them. They are the ones that you will be dealing with anyway after the purchase. Autozone (or any other parts chain store) is just a in between supplier who will ONLY accept a return after you talk to the manufacturer and get a return authorization number!!! Then there is the shipping damage, I could go on for days about this subject. Moral of the story is use a GOOD reliable local machine shop and do things right the first time. It may cost more up front but with save you thousands later on.

I don't think its worth it, there's a couple shops that will completely rebuild your engine for about $1,800 including labor

Just out of curiousity, what is wrong with your current motor? Why the need for an entire long block?

Autozone motors IMO are great if you have a stock DD, or trying to sell a car. But I do know that they will void the warranty if anything other than stock components are used on or in the motor.

well if the lt1's are build OEM (aka tough mother ******* still) why not spray 200 shot or something? u can put intake, LT's y pipe and exhaust still on it some gears and a converter nothing is stopping all that.. now how do they inspect the motor for warrenty work
