Default opti thread

okay so my opti is crapping out on me, will i be okay just replacing the opti and maybe the coil? My t/a is not a daily driver and it doesnt get too many miles a year. I was just going to replace it with GM replacement parts instead of the more expensive msd opti. How long will it last if i do that?

I recommend a new vacuum harness with the opti. I went thru 4 opti's in 40,000 miles and have put just about 60,000 on the last one I put in. Dal told me when I ordered it that GM won't warranty an opti anymore if you don't replace the vacuum harness at the same time.

The '93-'94 opti is non-vented stock. You can get a MSD cap/rotor for the 92-94 stock opti that adds venting to help keep moisture out. From reading a lot of posts, it is hard to say how long a new stocker might last. (although under good conditions many say you can get 100k) It is definitely a good idea to replace the water pump when you do the opti if you have any question about its condition. With the water pump right over the opti, if it starts to leak out the weep hole that can be bad news.
