Default valvetrain noise

Is it normal for LT1s to sound like sewing machines? My valvetrain seems to be very loud. I'm not sure if it was always like this, or maybe I just realize its odd so I notice it more.
The reason why it's bothering me, is cause the valvetrain is louder than my exhaust! That should not be right. BTW: I have a loudmouth dumped at the axle currently despite my signature. Here is a little video to get a feel for the noise.

You think I have too much lash?

Hard to tell. What's your valvetrain setup? Rockers, lifters, etc??

Depends on several factors. how are the valves set, pushrod lenth and so on. At one point you can hear it at the back of the car and sounded loosenot realy sure due to the distortion.

Hmm, that is a little interesting. Have you checked for exhaust leaks at the headers and collectors? It is kinda hard to tell with the distortion in the vid. Have you pulled the valve covers and check lash on all of the valves to see if a rocker is loose?

I don't have any visible signs of an exhaust leak at the header flange. I have a very tinny leak at the collectors, but I recently sealed it with RTV.

I haven't pulled the valve covers yet. Wanted to see if it was normal first.

Definitely not normal. I had a lot of valvetrain noise on my LS1 but that was due to Comp-R lifters and Jesel aluminum shaft-mount rockers. I'd say your best bet is to pull the valve covers and just wiggle each rocker to see if anything is loose.
