Default Replacing shocks & struts

Hey how hard is it to do your front struts on the car? I have original shocks all the way around, and my ride is really cruddy. I will be doing a LS1 break conversion soon, and see that I will have the steering knuckles out. I figured since I am so close to the struts, I might as well do them if possible. My question is do I need special tools?

The rears seem pretty easy.

It's not too bad to do. I say that cause I compare it to what I have done..I have dropped the Engine out of mine, built a new one, and put it in. While I was there, I changed them out. There is 4 Bolts on top, and 2 on the bottom. When you get that out, you are going to need a Spring Compressor. The shop on Base where I am has one, so I was done pretty quick. It is a pretty simple job, just bolts.

Mine was rusted..so I had to actually compress the Spring more, and cut it off of the top. I packed the top of that with Grease to prevent that from happening again.

I would plan on getting new upper perches. And you can not order lower purches anymore. You have to reuse the old. Also the top nut on mine was so rusted I ended up cutting the shock in half to get the lower perch off.

You can rent the strut spring compressor at autozone. You need a torx driver for the mount bolts that hide under the brake booster.

Make sure you have the spring in the compressor tool before you take off the top nut on the shock. I had to cut mine off with a dremel tool and a wafer wheel-they were rusted like the titanic.
