Default waterpump time

My waterpump is taking a crap on me, so its time to replace it. Its leaking through the weep hole at the bottom and thats too close to the opti. Is there anything I should do while uninstalling/reinstalling to protect the opti? I know to drain all the coolant out and I'll probably throw some towels under there to protect the opti. Any other tips?

Do what the_merv did. I think it was him? He made a metal cover that bolted in the wp holes that covered the opti. Truely genius.

It was me, thanks.
This is what he is talking about. I installed this on my new Water Pump so when it does go again, I can see it come straight out front, and it doesn't leak all over my OPTI. It's just a piece of Aluminum Flashing bent the right way.

By taking out the bottom set of WP bolts, I useually do the driver side all the coolant comes out. Nothing gets on the opti. ive had my WP on my old LT1 out over 10 times, never had a opti die on me.

Very easy to do, I would just do it now before you get anything else on it.

For some reason my brain isn't working and was wondering if you could break those instruction down even more or just clarify what you mean by "I useually do the driver side all the coolant comes out.".

I have removed and installed the WP in my car before without much mess at all but I am all ears for a better way.

THANK YOU!
