Default Canton Oil Pan Drain Plug size ...

Yesterday, while driving down a street, I heard a few metallic thumps under the car. I then looked in the rear view mirror and saw white smoke billowing out. I thought, "well, what the hell was that?". I looked at the dash gauges and everything seemed fine. I started decelerating and then looked at the gauges again. Rut roh... oil pressure at 20 when it's usually at 40 at idle. I turned off the key and began coasting since I wasn't far from home. As I rolled forward, I began mulling over what had happened and I came to the conclusion it must've been the drain plug. I pulled over on the snow covered shoulder of the road, put on my emergency blinkers, popped the hood release, got out and looked around. Hmmmm... long black oil stripe following the car up to this point.Crap! Looked under the car. Sure enough, no plug. Dammit! I called the wife and she picked me up and we went to the local parts store for a replacement drain plug and 7 qts of Mobil 1. I got to thinking on the way back to the car, "What if Canton has some kind of weird thread pitch?". The replacement the store had *looked* the same overall. The catalog showed the plug to be the generally used (Non-Metric) for SBC up to '96. I jacked the car up, started the plug and it seemed to be going on for about 5 or more turns, ,but then stopped short of locking down. I cursed a little but I could a least get the car home now. I poured in the 7 qts and headed home. Before I get under the car again, I wanted to know, are the canton pans using the same thread pitch size as the standard SAE pan plugs of old? Or are they a unique size?

I just called Canton. They said it's a 1/2" - 20. I presume that means it's a half inch in length and has a thread pitch of 20 threads per inch.
