Default Balancer hub and vibrations...

My 383 C.I. LT1 has been giving quite a bit of vibrations in the car. It is a vibration that gets fairly intense at around 2000 RPMs, but is there, albeit relatively less, at other RPMs too. When we looked at the car, we realized that the balancer hub is not lining up with the 12 o'clock position as the manual says it should, but instead lines up at around the 10 o'clock position, meaning that the harmonic balancer is also out of position....

Could this be the cause of the vibrations or do I need to look elsewhere? One thing is for sure, it would be pretty bad if the vibrations are due to the rotating assembly being unbalanced; I ordered the internal balanced kit from Eagle and I just assumed everything was OK when everything went in... Thanks in advance.

The LT1 is neutral balanced in the front so the hub position should matter. The eagle rotating assembly is internally balanced but the stock LT1 flywheel/flexplate has a counter weight which must be removed so the rear becomes neutral as well.

plastigauge next time you rebuild and engine. That way you can chech the clearence and size of your bearings, to make sure that everything works out.
