Well I had dumped duals with no x pipe or h pipe on my 83 z28, that had a 350 with world heads and a mild cam. 3" piping with Holley afterburner mufflers. I can live with the noise, strokinit383's setup is giving me hope.

For a while I had bullets right after the header collectors as a temporary fix while I saved some cash. Don't do it. Exhasut fumes are harsh, they bump the floor pan occaisonally. It's just not a nice setup.

Now, if I mash the gas and let the RPM climb high, then yeah, it gets ridiculous loud. "I'm" typically not holding a conversation or paying much attention to the radio in those situations.

Yes I have a h/c setup now but I got the exhaust before when I still had a completely stock motor. With longtubes, 3 inch x pipe, and bullets dumped before the axle it was still very loud. And the original poster was talking about running dumped bullets off of his longtubes which will easily be louder than what I had. I have also ran my exhaust dumped for a little while on my current engine setup when I was having my 12 bolt installed and it sounded like the world was ending. I reconnected the over the axle sections after a few drives because it was just way to much for a daily driver.

I have had an 3in X pipe into bullets on my car for 2 years. It was loud, but I never got any loud exhaust tickets with that setup. Before I went to the X pipe I had a standard y pipe/ full 3in setup with a cutout right before the rearend, and I got 3 loud exhaust tickets with that setup.

For this year im keeping the x-pipe, and swaping out the bullets for 2 borla XR1 mufflers. I had a borla on my old 3in setup, and liked it alot. Two of them after an x-pipe should sound even better.

The bullets dont really change the tone of the exhaust. Just quite it down slightly. The borla XR1 is an actuall muffler. They should quite the car down a good amount over the bullets, plus give the exhaust a better tone. I dont have any sound clips from my car.

I'm going to try to go with the H pipe route, and not dump them off the headers any more.

I would do some searching on the spintech mufflers. I have seen some high hp cars loose 20+hp with spintech mufflers. They also have a very unusual sound. Very raspy.

For those that read the previous link about X and H pipes, you have to remember they were talking about mustangs. Mustangs have a different firing order than the LT1 and the exhaust tone is going to be totaly different. I think there is a reason that H pipes are not as popular on LT1 and SBC engines, but I have never personaly head an H pipe on an LT1 or SBC.

Not sure, but it was on a 4in muflex system. I believe I read it on a thread on c..z28. com. But, I have heard 2 different cars with spintech muflers in person. And, like I previously said I didnt like the sound. Too raspy

From what I understand though, the power gains between a ORY and LT setup compared to a true dual setup isn't incredibly signifigant until you make enough power to need that kind of an exhaust system...

See now thats different, a 4inch Y pipe catback setup is eqaul to 2.5 true dauls

Somthing like that, I cant rember and I think one of the 3 muffler choices one if more restrictive....

Search around for more info, my memory is ok......
