Default Stall Size

will be upgrading to a cc306, which brand is better and what stall speed? Currently have a 95 z28 with 3.73's and an A3 trans. Will be adding pacesetter long tubes whe cam is installed. Any insight would be appreciated.

Well since you are shooting yourself in the foot with the A3 if you plan to actually drive it you will have to stay low on the stall.

If you had stayed with a LOCKUP tranny then you could run 34-3600 Edge, Yank, Vigilante and had streetability and performance. With the A3 you will have to pick performance or streetability due to the lack of lockup.

When I had that cam I was running a 3000 custom built stall. Drivibility was great. I was pulling a 1.7 60' and the car had a stumble off the launch. It was a mail order tune and I suppose they had it a little fat on the bottom end.

If the A3 is not that great would it be possible to bolt up an A4 in its place? I can get a rebuilt A4 with shift kit etc. for less than 200.

Huh?
When you say A3 you mean TH350 or TH400 right? They are both strong and have their place but have crappy first gears and no lockup meaning crappy for the street. Well there were lockup TH350s but they are NOT a performance tranny.
The stock tranny for the automatic cars was a 4L60E, it gets a lot of bad press but that is due to incompetent builders, the good shift kit for it costs around $100 so if you can find a rebuild 4L60E with a shift kit for $200 RUN away.

A 4L60E has a great first gear, it is a big jump to second gear BUT the lockup means you can use 2800+ stalls comfortable on a daily driver which goes a long ways towards making the 1-2 gearing difference a non-issue.

Where you getting that at, and what is it? Like mentioned above, that is cheap..too cheap. I just dropped $1100 on my built Trans(4L60E) from a local guy that was referred to me by a few people. I got the Transgo HD2 Kit in it as well, and that was $100.
