Default Is this right??

We put the #1 piston top dead center and the rotor in the opti is pointing around the coil wire, is that right? Car's running badly, sounds like deasel under load and no power after hot cam kit install.

The number one piston doesnt mean ****, this isnt like the old school cars, you just put the opti on and then when you turn the key, the computer will automatically setup the optispark for the firing through the crank position sensor so no need to mess with the opti rotor. Just make sure you put the timing chain on correctly.

would this be the same for a 93? so it doesn't matter where you position the opti as far as top dead center on like an old engine? thanks for the input!

93s have splined shaft and can be put on 'wrong'. The whole opti would be off though, not the rotor. Essentially the ECM still controls the timing, so you can't adjust it a few degrees by putting it a spline off.

What year for the OP?

The only way to get the opti misaligned on a 95+ vented style is to have the cam gear misaligned with the crank gear.

It's much easier to get the 93-94 non-vented on incorrectly. I know because the first time I spent 15 min trying to get it on right, it finally slid on easily, but was still incorrect. Car ran like **** and I had to pull it and try again.
