ya i ahd that problem in one of my 94 formulas i have had, shifted great when cruising around but when u romp on it litterally would just neutralize! After pulling the trans having it rebuilt and reinstalling it i still had the same problem, a short time later i pulled the trans again for my tranny builder to find a crack in the drum of the clutch pack causing me to leak fluid internally losing high load holding power.

4footer, sounds like an internal leak to me. 79k might be alot if it was pushed hard the entire way. There are a number of different things it could be. Just a few.....your clutch plates could be just about all gone in the 2nd gear clutch pack, you could have a leak on the seal for the 2nd gear piston, you could have a leak either on the case to plate gasket or plate to valve body gasket, possibly an accumulator piston has worn out the hole it slides on an then it looses pressure to the piston, a possible slipping/worn out band or a possibility of a servo leak.

Like I said, several different things. If I were you, I'd baby it until you can have it rebuilt. You don't want it to come apart and mess up other things inside the trans.

Good luck,

Joe
