Default 160°F thermostat

Dropping in a 160°F thermostat worth it in a LT1. Will it help run the car cooler? Do you really need the fans installation kit with the 160°F thermostat?
Just trying to see if you guys have advice or have done this? Thanks

it is a good upgrade, especially with the fan kit, you could also get the car tuned to turn the fans on earlier, the 160 stat really benefits from the tune though

I put one in my old LT1 and thought it worked out pretty well. Temp was noticeably lower while cruising but would still go up high while sitting in traffic. I didn't have a tune or fan upgrade of any kind though. I picked mine up from Summit. I'm sure some of the sponsors on here have them though.

it will def work by itself, but you can really benefit from having the tune done well, and you probably wont heat up in traffic

I have a 160*. The car runs at 170*. Whoever you choose, just make sure you tune the fans.

Looks like a tuning with pcm4less on a LT1 is $175 plus shipping. I would like to get the fans to kick on earlier. anything else I could get them to do? I have a Moroso air intake kit but stock throttle body with stock MAF so increasing the line pressure with a 48mm TB won't be needed.

What else do I ask for or do they just check my computer out to see how its doing? Seems high just to have them kick the fans on?

Budget OBD1 Programming
Price: $75.00

Looks like MadZ28.com is $75 if you send your PCM to them. I think I'll have the fans kick on and adjust the PCM for 18" wheels and one other? Any body have an idea for the third change?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The budget package includes any 3 items from the following:

Remove Skip Shift
Adjust Rev Limiter
Adjust Fan Kick-on Temperature
Adjust Speed Limiter
Disable Any Code(s)
Disable VATS
Adjust for different tire/gear size
Knock retard desensitizing.

Adjust Fan Kick-on Temperature
Disable Any Code(s)
Get those two then
Get
Adjust Speed Limiter
if your car has a 120 mph gauge
if not then
Knock retard desensitizing.
Or change your rev limiter (set it higher and get a hardware box to limit spark like the msd6al its much safer on your motor)
remove skip shift will do nothing for an A4

I wasn't referring to the Skip Shift thats for the 6 speed guys. What I was talking about is getting the shifts firmed up it is defiantly worth it.

I wasn't replying to you (unless you're replying to OP in which case ignore this). Firmer shifts arent offered as a budget tune from what I can see...

so i guess a fan tune won't be needed if the fan runs all the time?

Werd! Honestly the thermostat helps but here in SE Texas it doesn't matter on a good 100 deg day, it'll hit the infamous 210 normal temp even with a fan bypass mod. Best addition I did was a Griffin universal radiator, running the hoses was a little different, took some Orielly & Autozone shopping around but keeps her @170 middle of summer & pass after pass @the track.
